The use of velvet is increasingly popular within furniture and interior design as it’s said to be one of this years trends.
Pieces of furniture such as sofas and armchairs seem to be the most popular within the velvet trend. They are often boldly coloured or quite big which means that they can easily act as statement pieces. With the use of velvet, we are able to achieve richness of colour which enables people to find something unique that suits their own needs. Velvet looks great when it is mixed together with pieces that have a different texture, such as leather. The contrast between the two allows for balance to be created. Always elegant, depending on the colour, velvet is formal or casual and it can also be cosy in the winter. The addition of velvet furniture adds more class and luxury to the space. Many people want their homes to look classy and luxurious without the need of buying multiple expensive products and a velvet piece will do the job without creating clutter in their spaces. I have found out that velvet furniture are very popular in shades such as dark green and navy as well as blush pink. These colours link in with colours called KALE, NIAGARA, LAPIS BLUE and PALE DOGWOOD which are some of the Pantone’s Spring/Summer 2017 colours. Velvet has been said to be a part of a more eclectic and contemporary look. This means that it will suit many different design types and does not have to be incorporated into furniture design. It can be added to the space in the form of a pillow or a head board, which could possibly be just as effective as bigger pieces such as chairs.
