For my A-Level Product Design course, I have decided to design and manufacture a stackable storage unit. The product is fully personalisable which means that the final product should suit user's needs and the needs of their home.
Below are the identified problem which I have decided to solve, the design brief and who my chosen clients are.
There are many already existing shelving units, however not many of them open and close with ease. People do not want to clean up the dust off of things that are placed on them regularly as it is quite time consuming and they do not have a lot of time because of their busy lifestyles. As a result their belongings; things such as books and CDs get covered in dust and after a while become damaged or broken.
To design and manufacture a contemporary storage solution that could provide protection and preservation of items that can be found within a contemporary home, whiles still presenting them. The product should be fully adjustable, allowing the user to create their own storage solution that will suit their needs and their home. In addition, the surface finish of the product should be smooth so that it is quick and easy to clean.
The clients for my product are young adults and adults (both male and female) between the ages of 17- 30 because, people between these ages have the busiest lifestyle and therefore not enough time to clean up regularly. By choosing this particular target market I will be able to simplify one of the every day tasks which is cleaning.
Throughout the course of this project, I have completed things such as research, planning, designing, client interviews and marketing.
Below is the POS (point of sale) display board which I have designed for this product and an advert which could potentially be played on TV or could be placed on the product's website if it was actually going to be sold.
